A co-worker overheard me singing a dead moon song and asked what it was. I tried to explain dead moon. She laughed at me. I like this quote from wikipedia, it tells the story perfectly:The band(The Weeds----pre-dead moon) was promised an opening slot on a Yardbirds bill at the Fillmore in San Francisco, but on their arrival found that the venue hadn't heard of them.

if you haven't heard, nashville has been underwater.

i've never seen that much rain in two days.

and, of course, i hope to never see it again.

i'm one of the lucky ones who came out fine.

my house is in a perfect spot for those situations.

nothing happend.

a few friends lost important things like cars and homes.

others lost record collections and artwork.

those things CANNOT be replaced. and for rock and roll kids, that hurts.

one of my favorite "disaster" stories has to be nashville's famous hotel, Opryland Hotel.

"A pair of piranha reportedly escaped from their aquarium during Nashville's recent flood. According to police reports quoted by television station WKRN, at least two flesh-eating piranha slipped out of the huge 150,000-gallon tank at Aquarium Restaurant in the Opry Mills mall and are swimming in the flooded hallways, where water remains waist-deep to neck-deep in spots. i sat alone at a bar last night, waiting for some food, and to my left sat a couple on a date. i could tell by the conversation that they had recently met and were still trying to get to know one another. the girl talked and talked and the guy sat patiently listening to everything she had to say.

she talked about her job, dog, hometown, etc. all the usual things. when she gets to the part about her parents, things became interesting. judging by her story, she has a father that will kill anyone that touches her, even though she just turned 32. he is very protective. after explaining how sweet her father is and that, "he really means well." she says, "i can't wait for you to meet him!" before she stopped talking about her parents, the guys grabs the bartender and orders a shot of whiskey.

my first season as a springwater dirtbag ended this past weekend. i never thought i could enjoy playing softball, but i have to admit, i had a blast! i felt like a kid every sunday this summer and i can't wait for next spring. through all my years of playing baseball, i don't think i ever had a more consistent fan base at EVERY game. the dirtbag nation is definitely a prosperous nation. cheers to a great season full of good times on the field and great fans in the bleachers!

i recently heard a story about a major league baseball player from the late 1800's. accused of having a drinking problem, the owner of his team hired pinkerton detectives to follow him around town. the night before a game, detectives found him in a bar around 3am drinking a lemonade. when confronted about this, he defended himself declaring, "it was straight whiskey! i've never drank a lemonade at that hour in my life!" he died at the age of 40 from consumption.

the finnish wife carrying finals were held last weekend. the winner received his wife's weight in beer. too bad my girlfriend weighs 92 lbs.

Francisco Rodríguez should be shot for walking Mariano Rivera. The Yankees had the bases loaded in the ninth and the closing pitcher for the Yankees is at bat and HE GETS WALKED by the other BIG TIME closer Franscisco Rodriguez nicknamed K-ROD, because he strikes a lot of people out, in a very humorous or embarrassing way. This walk earned Mariano Rivera his first RBI ever. I'll give RIvera credit, he did take a GIANT swing, obviously he missed. I'm just glad i could see it with all the other idiots at springwater.

i broke my digital camera one week before i went to visit friends in NYC which means no pictures have been taken and i have to buy a new camera.

i enjoyed new york: good food, nice to see old friends, not being at work and a little record shopping.

the bad things about my trip were: no money, no bicycle, bad food, subway construction and terrible gold sprints--the free beer was nice though--thanks brooklyn brewery!

basically i spent ZERO time in nashville and that is enough for me.

so i hosted my first ever alley cat urban bicylce race two saturdays ago. i had a lot of fun and got help from some fun guys. about 20 people came and 17 raced. considering the champ mike crouch was in mexico eating tacos, i think the turn out was pretty good. the weather was beautiful and i thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the park waiting for the race to finish.

this guy won. he got hit by a car on the way to the race. but he looks happy. the after party was a sweaty dance off with old ladies at decades. pictures are here

Rolller Derby for Dudes

so! last saturday was awesome! my buddy nathan came back to town for a quick visit. to celebrate we held the first ever roller race at springwater. how this came together so well, i don't know, but it did. and it was good. 25 riders participated and one kid, ben won. we don't know who he is but we respect him none the less. the atmosphere was great. we had an actual dj, DJ coach, keith and myself MC'd and everyone else drank and enjoyed themselves. brian worked his ass off and made all of this possible. he is incredible. also, candice, who i just met worked on getting this together. random other people helped out as well and made this something we want to again and again. we all owe them drinks. after the races and vomiting(from racing too hard) we rolled off into the night. half went home and slept and half kept partying. i didn't come home until after 3am and nathan and myself finished off a bottle of scotch before calling it a night. all in all, it was a great day. i love this city and i love that we can do this. cheers to more!

an old friend came to town last week. for those who know matt, he is different. in a good way. to celebrate, we threw him a party. it was supposed to be a casual night of cocktails and jazz music, then....the legion of doom bicycle crew showed up and made sure no one drove home safely.

so, its a new year. 2008 was a good one. full of new stories to tell, stories to forget and more to be continued...

a lot has changed in the last 12 months. i unexpectedly moved from my favorite apartment that i hated to leave, only to move into my new/current favorite place i've ever lived. i am incredibly lucky. i'm still without a car. nothing changed there. i did buy a scooter, then some ****** tried to steal it and broke it all to hell. therefore, the bicycle remains dominant. in the past year i've gone from riding my bicycle alone, to riding with a whole crew of people. its changed the whole game. now, its more of a lifestyle. i love it.

i punched a guy in the face on christmas night, he deserved it. it felt great. someone stole my credit card number, i don't think i deserved that. my girlfriends that work at harris teeter were tired of seeing me write checks. apparently only old ladies and myself use checks. my bank did a great job and we've fixed all that. all my friends bought houses, they all deserve that. congratulations guys! where is my money for all those repairs?!?!?

its been a week and christmas is finished. i've helped my best friend move into his first home-congratulations!, i've been punched in the head, had my identity stolen and got a new blender/food processor. every year i spend the week of christmas in florida with my mom's side of the family. the weather is warmer, there is a beach nearby and i get to see my family. between my cousins, aunts and uncles the youngest is 18. Which in my family means ITS TIME TO DRINK. we did. i've been drunk since 12/19/2008. not a positive thing.

i got back to nashville in time to see party cannon play at little hamilton-little hamilton is a punk rock multipurpose werehouse. the theme of the night was "mad max-thunderdome" and it worked. it was uneasy in there. fireworks, old tires wrapped in rebarb, broken televisions. it was crazy.

saturday was the december version of the alley cat race. mike was the champ and is the current golden saddle holder. i have to say, it was a good day/night.

during the race we collected food for the less fortunate, even though most of us are the less fortunate... anyways, it was a good deed. after the race we all met at the newest bicycle shop in town, halcyon bikes. the girls from hog heaven cooked vegan bbq and pabst blue ribbon chili, vegan-of course, and soon after we started our post race victory drinks. around 8:00pm, alley cat champ mike, jimmy and myself set off to maffioza's to find other riders, more food and more drinks. then it was off to downtown for dancing. robert's western world didn't have the right age group, so we jumped over to decades for some good disco action. around 3 we left the club to get harassed by some chick, who "just wanted to come with us," on the sidewalk. after a quick cab hail, for her, we were back on our bikes headed to a party that no one knew exactly where it was. bad idea. after that, we split up, unintentionally. after wendy's told us, "no ten-speeds in the drive thru," i lost my partner in the windy streets of 4am and headed for the house. no one is dead.

Things Got Wild...Missing Bike

So the race went off without a hitch...until after the race. 1st place winner Edward took a post race/booze fall that resulted in face wound. Then it was decided that the remainder of the crew was going to find/crash the mysterious Bike Peddler Pub Crawl. For some reason no one that was doing the pub crawl knew anything about it, but we were at least able to find out that it was in East Nashville. Enroute to the Pub Crawl we decided to stop off at the Gallery Hop in the Arcade building. This proved to be more than a small stop and more booze was consumed. By the time we were ready to leave and intercept the pub crawl some of the crew was fairly smashed. One of the guys in from out of town decided he would try to find his way back to Hillsboro Village. He did make it back, but lost his bike in the process and cannot remember where it went. If anyone sees a green fixed gear bike with red deep v's please respond to this post so we can recover the bike. So we ended up at the Rosepepper and found the pub crawl. We were surprised to see that the event had que cards. Seems kind of fishy that no one knew anything about it, but then it was organized enough to have que cards. hmmmm. So we rode from the Rosepepper up to the Family Wash and drank another beer. There were at least two wrecks in this short stretch. Then the que cards told everyone the pub crawl was finished. We were invited to someone's house to drink some more beer with the stipulation that we bring out own. With that we were on our way to the Springwater.
